"OffBoreray, St. Kilda" (71cmx 45cm) watercolour, 1999.

An early summer's morning, and Espanola is passing Boreray, having justcircumnavigated the whole group, weighing anchor from Village Bay at 6am. The weather is as awkward as ever. and the boomed forsail (always a problem) needs a good haul. Course was now set for the Sound of Harris some 45 miles due East. For boatspotters, this is the old mainmast - before the dismasting in Liverpool Marina Lockin 1998.Pilotage notes: Village bay has a nice sandy bottom, but the swell is always a problem, and the rocks are very hard and very close...Circa 1994
